Week 2 Monday SOAP: Jehovah Rohi

Week 2:  Jehovah Rohi "The Lord is our Shepherd"

S- The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake.

O- The Lord is our Shepherd, we shall not want!

A- David was a shepherd boy, he knew well the responsibilities to the sheep. Protecting them from danger, finding good pasture, bringing them to still waters, and keeping them from straying. He sees God as his Shepherd and as a guide. I love how David uses this analogy to describe our God, Jehovah Rohi "The Lord is our Shepherd" and we are His sheep. My Shepherd will provide for me, refresh me and restore me. As I was studying deep into these verses, it is clear to me how much my Shepherd loves me. All that He does to protect me and keep me from straying away from Him and when I do, He will leave those 99 sheep just to come looking for me. He loves me that much.

  • Verse 1: The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. I shall not look to temporary things. "Does He not feed the birds of the air?" So many of us want material things like food, shelter, transportation, safety, etc. and think those things will be enough for us, that we need to have them, but our Shepherd says "you shall not want, for I will provide you with all that you need"

  • Verse 2: He makes me lie down in green pastures. He feeds His sheep, he provides us with the nourishment we need. Green pastures being the scriptures truth, always fresh, always rich, never exhausted. He leads me beside still waters. Still waters being the influence of the Holy Spirit. He knows we cant go there ourselves we need guidance. He refreshes us by providing.

  • Verse 3: He restores my soul. He gives us strength. He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake. The Lord is our guide. There are so many times we come across "are we doing the right thing or not" or "Which path is right" Trust in the Lord with all your heart, for His name sake. He will lead us.

God says "I am the Good Shepherd" The shepherd knows His sheep and calls them by name and them out. He goes before His sheep and we follow Him, we know His voice. The Good Shepherd gives His life for His sheep. The Good Shepherd keeps His sheep and no man can pluck them out of His hand.

One of my favorite verses!!!

P- Lord, you are my Shepherd and I am your sheep. I thank you for always coming to look for me, for not letting me stray too long, thank you for nourishing me and guiding me. Forgive me when I tend to go at life on my own, when my flesh takes over and takes from you. Help me remember daily You are my protector, you are my refugee, you are all I want. Lord, forgive me that it has taken me years to come to the conclusion that I cant live life without You. I need you, every hour I need you, my one defense, my righteousness, Oh God how I need you. I give you my day Lord, lead me. In Jesus name, Amen.
